Afghanistan bans YouTube.

Afghanistan has today prevented its citizens from accessing YouTube due to a film on the site not showing the Prophet Mohammad in a very nice light and tbg. doesn't mean the studio lights, though that is also true.

The film, Innocence of Muslims, looks pretty dreadful and at a cost of apparently $5m it looks like someone just had something to get off their chest and a lot of time and money. However, this dreadfully made film has sparked protests in Egypt and Libya tragically resulting in a public lynching & murder of an American ambassador, and now in a ludicrous and completely undemocratic move the Afghanistan government have BANNED the website.

The Afghan government says YouTube is banned until the film is removed - "We have been told to shut down YouTube to the Afghan public until the video is taken down", Aimal Marjan, general director of Information Technology at the ministry, told Reuters.

The news comes as Channel4 cancelled its screening of a programme - Islam: The Untold Story - questioning the origins of the Muslim faith due to security reasons after receiving 1,000 complaints. tbg. was lucky enough to watch the first broadcast on CH4 and found it very enlightening indeed. This show is available on 4OD.

This is all outrageous, dangerous and sad. The Afghan government and killer protests in Libya lay shame yet again to the neurotic Islamists. Get a grip and get over it.
